Escuela Bilingue Internacional (EBI), an independent, co-educational day school for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade, first opened its door in September 2006. EBI serves nearly 400 students and operates two campuses: pre-kindergarten through 1st grade in Oakland and 2nd grade through 8th grade in Emeryville, California. EBI focuses on the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality international educational programs. The School offers a Spanish/English bilingual program which provides students with an intensive language immersion curriculum. The school also develops conversational skills in a third language, Mandarin. All of its teachers are native speakers of their language and represent more than 20 nationalities. The School largely serves families in Oakland and the surrounding communities and sponsors events such as community service projects and a Spanish language immersion summer camp for both EBI and non-EBI students.
CEDA closed a financing with EBI in September 2017 for over $8,000,000 to finance and refinance the cost of acquiring the School’s campus in Emeryville allowing them to benefit from substantial savings over their costs of rent payments. The project also includes improvements to its Oakland campus’ parking surface, student play areas, and fencing as well as renovations to the facility’s exterior. The savings generated from EBI’s tax-exempt financing through CEDA results in increased cash-flow available to support its valuable programs and services.
